How did the pioneers live? What foods did they eat? What toys did they play with?
How did they make and color their clothing? What work did they do around their cabins? We'll make corn husk people and dress them in naturally dyed clothing.
We'll sew, weave, play pioneer games, and make a covered coach. Hitch up your horses, it's going to be a fun ride.

How do you start nature journaling? We'll focus on the process of observation, the way nature makes us feel, our thoughts and ideas. Artist Marc Evan co-teaches this class. He will help our students learn to draw what they observe, how to add details to their drawings, and show them the importance of slowing down so they don't miss a thing. Class includes creating a one of a kind nature journal and a set of sketching pencils.

Get ready for a messy day of art. Let's go wild and splatter paint, creating a large-scale mural. Like to tie-dye...except for the mess? Come on down and create a funky bandana. Hammering chalk, blowing some crazy bubbles, and painting with our hands (and feet!) will be the fun of the day. Don't worry about clean up, we've got that covered, however, a change of clothes is recommended!
Embrace the mess!

Ahoy! Climb aboard for a rolling romp through the world of pirates. We'll learn about famous pirates. Was Blackbeard a real person? Were there any girl pirates? What did pirates carry on their ships and where did they sail? Along with some history, we'll build a ship, create pirate maps that lead us to a treasure and of course, become experts at talking like a pirate. Calling all scalliwags!

What creatures live deep under the sea?
How are sharks and dolphins similar? Do jellyfish actually sting? We'll "dive" into oceans, learning about the animals and the oceans that surround us.
How smart is an octopus? If you were a sea animal, where would you live? What do you look like? Get ready for some fun water table play too. We will have a whale of a time!

We love fairy tales at Roots and Wings! Enchanted forests, magical castles, extraordinary kings and queens...they are all here. We'll use our play skills to create stories and use our imaginations to act them out. What if the 3 bears rescue Little Red Riding Hood at the little pigs house? Could it be that the princess had a super power and that's why she couldn't feel the pea? We'll mix it up, mash them together and have lots of laughs at our fractured fairy tale theater.

Oh little pig....oh little pig...let me in! Why can't the Big Bad Wolf and the pigs get along? Maybe they need some help from us? Can we build a house that the wolf can't blow down? Can the pigs escape the wolf by running a clever obstacle course? We'll tell the story of the Three Little Pigs, "build" houses for the pigs and play lots of piggly-wiggly games. Will the wolf be successful in getting the three pigs? Not by the hairs of our Chiny-chin-chin!
