ROOTED MINDSET

WHAT IT IS

WHY WE TEACH IT

WHY WE TEACH IT

A woman reads a colorful book outdoors to children sitting on steps.

Teaching students that it pays to take risks and make mistakes, that learning a new skill takes work, that it’s okay to be different from friends and that new experiences are welcome, sets up students to be resilient and confident learners.  We developed a Rooted Mindset curriculum that teaches essential skills though learning about naturalists, explorers, artists, and scientists.  Our Rooted Mindset curriculum is taught in to our students in our 4-8 Nature School and Rooted Math classes.

Teaching Rooted Mindset had changed the way our students engage in their learning.  It’s provided a framework for them to refer to when the going gets tough.  It’s changed the way our students talk to themselves, and it’s changed the way they motivate each other.

We use books based on real people who have made contributions to our knowledge about the natural world.  We teach about establishing good habits for our minds and bodies. Using literature, discussion, art, and storytelling we teach growth mindset skills, history, and the power of yet.
