In our project based classes, we work on one theme for several weeks. Our project classes are taught at a challenging level. Sustained focus, emerging problem solving skills, some independence in learning and a joy of collaboration makes students successful in our project classes. Our Monday project classes are for older students, and our Tuesday project classes are for younger students.

Rooted Theater is a 10-week project class culminating in a performance by the Rooted Theater Players! This year, students will perform a selection of scenes and songs from 'A Year with Frog and Toad'. We think it's the perfect sharing for our ensemble of actors. Based on Arnold Lobel's books, this musical features joyful singing and comedy. It tells the story of endearing friendship through the seasons. Students will work on acting, choreography, set design and costumes. Most importantly, this class encourages teamwork, collaboration and working on a project to delightful completion. Join Frog and Toad and all their friends for a rollicking good time in our Rooted Theater Project Class.
*Students are expected to memorize a few lines and practice the songs at home. This project class requires students to attend one rehearsal in addition to class time and students will perform the sharing twice. Once for Roots and Wings theater parents and guests and another time for our broader Roots and Wings families. Younger students joining will be part of the ensemble. Dates for performances will be provided in January.
Tuesdays, January 9 - March 12

What's happening inside a tornado? What causes an earthquake? How can a slow drought become a natural disaster? Some natural disasters are caused by weather, where others are caused by a shifting of the earth, or a careless camper. We'll take a hands on approach to learning about natural disasters. Simulating earthquakes and landslides and understanding how friction and gravity play an important role. How much water can a river hold, and what happens when it's reached its capacity? We don't want to say that natural disasters are fun, but learning about them will be a blast! Join us for a 'disastrous' class!
Mondays March 25 - May 6

Travel to destinations all around America and discover our most treasured places. Each week we will delve into the nature, climate, landforms, and animals that live in our national parks. We'll learn about what is being done to conserve these beautiful places and what threatens them. We’ll “travel” to Yellowstone, the Everglades, Denali, the Grand Canyon and more. Of course, we will use the playful, hands-on teaching style we are known for to make maps, dioramas, travel brochures, posters, storytelling, and book making. This project classs culminates with a visit to the Roots and Wings National Park Museum where our students act as docents and parents and guests can plan their next big park visit. We hope all our nature loving students join us on our virtual National Parks tour! Mondays class is taught at a 2nd+ grade level.
